The Peseta Makes A Comeback!

In an attempt to breathe a little life into the local economy, a small fishing town in the north-west of Spain has re-introduced the peseta, 9 years after it was phased out to make way for the euro.

Mugardos, in the province of A Coruña in Galicia has a local economy driven predominantly by fishing and agriculture and this year at least 60 local shops and businesses have decided to accept the obsolete peseta alongside the current euro currency from anyone who didn’t get round to trading them in in time.
